academic health system affiliated with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Founded in 1994, Lifespan is a five-partner not-for-profit health system and includes three teaching hospitals of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University: Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children’s Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Bradley Hospital, and also includes Newport Hospital, and Gateway Healthcare.

Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
Rhode Island Hospital has received numerous awards for clinical excellence. These include being named a Blue Distinction Center by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island for cardiac care, spine surgery, complex and rare cancers, and knee and hip replacement services. Its Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit was awarded a Beacon designation by the American Association for Critical Care Nursing for excellence in clinical care.
In 2014, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital, was verified as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons.
