Pediatric Trauma Manager


Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or RN



NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County
operates a world-renowned Level 1 Trauma Center, one of only three in the borough, which serves 2.6 million residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island. NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County maintains close relationships with NYC Health + Hospitals’ diagnostic, post-acute, and long-term care centers, and is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Medical Center.


Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and managing the implementation, operations, and evaluation of strategic programs or functions within Kings County Hospital to improve the clinical and operational outcomes associated with the pediatric trauma population's care.
  • Designing communication to internal and external stakeholders, coordinating reports and statistics to improve programmatic performance.
  • Analyzing and researching programs and drafting business plans as needed. Additionally, the incumbent completes and oversees external awards applications, including but not limited to verification for pediatric trauma program by the American College of Surgeons.
  • Assisting in the planning ,development, implementation, and on-going direction of the trauma program, the Pediatric Trauma Program Manager will work collaboratively with the Trauma Medical Director, Adult Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Panel Liaisons to develop and monitor medical care policies/procedures pertaining to trauma patients, the Program's Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) activities, including review of pediatric trauma care across the continuum, case-finding, formulating performance improvement plans, and monitoring compliance with performance improvement plans.
  • Providing leadership and direction for the Peds Trauma Program's injury prevention and outreach strategies to reduce the burden of injury in our community, and support the Trauma Program.
  • Maintaining compliance with the NYS Department of Health - Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, American College of Surgeons - Committee on Trauma and National Trauma Data Standards for the maintenance of the Trauma Registry.
  • Providing a proactive vision of needed activities to encourage PIPS maturity.
  • Encouraging and fostering the Trauma Service in meeting its responsibility in providing optimal outcomes for the injured pediatric patient.
  • Providing support to the trauma registry database by maintaining the validation process's oversite, evaluating the quality and efficiency of data abstraction, and encouraging continuing education among the registrars.
  • Ensuring multidisciplinary trauma performance improvement, ensuring the program executes the authority to evaluate care across disciplines, identify opportunities for improvement, and implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Collaborating with TMD to assume overall responsibility and accountability of the PIPS process, reviewing the quality of care for traumatically injured pediatric patients during all phases of their hospital visit.
  • Reviewing PIPS abstracts for inclusion in the Trauma Peer Review process, based on guidelines from the ACS-COT, including the identification of all injuries, procedures, and complications
  • Assisting with data cleaning and inter/intra-rater reliability activities.
  • Monitoring and documenting compliance with Trauma Program audit filters and performance improvement plans.
  • Attending Trauma Peer review and Operational PIPS meetings.
  • Conducting focused reviews of specific audit filters patient outcomes, complications, and financials, as needed.
  • Coordinating with local public health agencies, private organizations, and the general public to raise awareness about the predictability and preventability of injuries. Advance the knowledge of injury prevention through publications and presentations.
  • Developing and implementing multi-faceted injury prevention activities targeted at at-risk populations.
  • Disseminating injury prevention materials through local and state-wide networks to enhance public education and awareness about injury prevention.
  • When available, developing plans to distribute life-saving products to those in need within the community.
  • Representing the Trauma Program at meetings of the STAC and RTAC.


Qualifications include:

·         New York State Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or RN License

·         RN, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (all levels) experience

·         ACLS life support certification or eligible to obtain

·         Post-graduate (Masters’ Degree) preferred

·         3 years of clinical and leadership experience in at least one of the following – trauma, critical care, emergency or operating room recovery
