Description
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director, Clinical Placement for the School of Nursing. The Director, Clinical Placement reports directly to the Associate Dean for Simulation and Clinical Learning. The Director will strategize with associate and assistant deans, directors, and faculty to identify logistical and operational needs for clinical education, optimize scheduling and provide budget conscious solutions. The Director will serve as a liaison to clinical sites and faculty to ensure the clinical needs of the curriculum are met and will operate from a solid understanding of nursing education and practice, combined with knowledge of the organizational environments where nurses practice. They will also facilitate resolution of concerns regarding clinical faculty and agency personnel, attend meetings at clinical affiliation agencies, and attend community and professional meetings and recruitment job fairs.
The Director of Clinical Placement is responsible for the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum’s clinical scheduling component of the nursing programs including but not limited to experiences in clinical agencies, on-campus simulation labs, and community settings. This position will lead the nursing programs in creating a student-centered learning environment and a clinical education culture of professionalism, teamwork, inclusiveness, and respect among students, faculty, clinical instructors, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops clinical schedule needs in collaboration with the Assistant and Associate Deans, Program Directors, and Clinical Coordinators ensuring that students’ clinical objectives are met and reflective of the programs’ curriculums and desired student outcomes.
- Creates logistical plans for clinical curriculum needs that ensure optimal student experience and desired student outcomes.
- Guide development of clinical rotation schedules that align with course objectives and faculty qualifications.
- Creates and implements recruitment strategies based on divisional needs and curricular activities.
- Identifies clinical placements that are consistent with clinical objectives including laboratory facilities, simulation center, etc.
- Builds and maintains relationships with clinical agencies.
- Collaborates with Clinical Coordinators to secure clinical sites each semester.
- Collaborates with Registrar’s office and Clinical Coordinators to ensure student and faculty clinical compliance with School and clinical agency requirements.
- Identifies, assesses, and makes recommendations for hiring new rehiring returning adjunct faculty, based on an analysis of adjunct attrition, student feedback, and other factors.
- Assists, supports & supervises the hiring process of newly hired and returning clinical faculty.
- Leads orientation sessions each semester for returning adjunct clinical faculty.
- Collaborates with Center for Educational Innovation and Quality to administer new faculty onboarding and orientation.
- Maintains a culture of quality, trust, and accountability among all clinical faculty.
- Makes in-person site visits to full-time and adjunct clinical faculty/PTL at their clinical sites (or classrooms) as needed.
- Analyzes and presents statistical data pertaining to students participating in clinical education, clinical site utilization, and adjunct faculty.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Teaching may include graduate and undergraduate didactic and clinical courses.
- Scholarship includes but is not limited to peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and published book chapters.
- Serve on faculty and/or University Committees.
Requirements
- Doctoral Degree (PhD/DNP/EdD) required or in progress
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Minimum of four years of clinical health care experience.
- Minimum of one year of teaching in an institution of higher learning or equivalent experience in healthcare management.
- Current Licensure or eligibility for RN licensure in New Jersey
