ABOUT MELANOMA PATIENTS AUSTRALIA
Melanoma Patients Australia is an independent, national not for profit charitable organisation founded in 2006 by patients for patients. Support is provided by offering access to trusted, nurse-led telehealth services, peer support programs, and targeted resources.
We provide practical and compassionate support for anyone impacted by melanoma; this includes patients, survivors and carers. Through our support, we provide a suite of resources, services and specialised clinical expertise which offer evidence-based tailored information in relation to diagnosis, treatment, symptom management and emotional wellbeing.

THE ROLE
The Melanoma Nurse Counsellor role is a new position that will play a pivotal role to ensure Melanoma Patients Australia delivers on a range of important grant and partner funded projects for all Australians affected by melanoma until 30 June 2027.
Under the direction of the Telehealth Nurse Manager, the Melanoma Nurse Counsellor will join our Nursing Team and deliver all aspects of the assigned client counselling caseload to people affected by melanoma resulting from health professional and self-referrals. The Telehealth Melanoma Nurse Counsellor will also work with internal and external stakeholders to expand the service and increase service utilisation nationally to meet the needs of melanoma patients and carers nationally.
The Melanoma Nurse Counsellor will also develop patient/carer resources, facilitate workshops, webinars and support groups as part of the Melanoma Patients Australia national nursing team.
The successful applicant will be task focused, have excellent interpersonal skills, be confident establishing and maintaining stakeholder relationship skills, be highly organised and enjoy working autonomously and collaboratively as part of a virtual national team.
Occasional domestic travel will be required to fulfil the requirements of this position.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Term: Fixed term contract until 30 June 2027
Hours Per Week: Full Time (38 hours per week) or Part-Time 0.6/0.8
Hourly Rate / Salary: Nursing Award L3 for work level/type classification only
This is a fully remote work from home role. Applicants must have facilities to enable working from home.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Registered Nurse
- Must be qualified and trained in counselling and/or therapy
- Current registration with AHPRA
- 5 years minimum experience in a clinical setting
- At least 2 years’ recent experience in Oncology Nursing
- Experience and knowledge of survivorship principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand personal client journey, in the absence of access to medical history
- Experience working on-line / video and telephone (desirable)
- Experience with working in a periodic pressure environment, with ability to prioritise important and urgent matters
- Proven self-discipline and motivated tendencies
- Experience working autonomously, without direct supervision, whilst understanding scope and escalation logic
- Experience with organising multiple tasks, ability to remain methodical and systematic
- Demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with the relevant codes of conduct and standards of practice (e.g. Australian Counselling Association Code of Ethics and Practice)
- Collaborative working style, being a team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude
